TASMANIA

Assault data for Tasmania is published for the first time since 2010 (refer to Explanatory Notes paragraph 19).

In 2014, there were 2,756 victims of assault recorded in Tasmania, with an assault victimisation rate of 535.4 victims per 100,000 people.

In Tasmania during 2014:

  • Over a quarter (27% or 737 victims) of all assault victims were aged between 25 and 34 years;
  • Females accounted for 52% (1,428 victims) of total assault victims;
  • Over a third of recorded assaults against males (37% or 486 victims) and more than two thirds of assaults against females (68% or 968 victims) occurred at a residential location; and
  • For over four in five victims of assault (84% or 2,304 victims), no weapon was used by the offender.
